Is electric underfloor heating good for bathrooms?
Yes, the bathroom is where a warm floor makes the biggest difference in a Kashmir winter. The heating cable sits sealed in screed beneath the tiles, is rated IPX7 waterproof, and warms the floor evenly so it dries faster. A typical 40 sq ft bathroom costs about ₹8,800 – ₹24,000 to install.

Is underfloor heating safe in a wet bathroom?
Yes. The heating cable is rated IPX7, meaning it withstands immersion in water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes under test conditions. It is buried in screed beneath the tiles, so water on the floor never touches it. The circuit should be protected by an earth-leakage breaker (RCCB), as any bathroom circuit should.
The thermostat sits outside the wet zone, usually just outside the door or on a dry wall, with the floor sensor laid in the screed.

What are the benefits of a heated bathroom floor?
Warm tiles underfoot on the coldest mornings, a floor that dries quickly instead of staying wet and cold, and less damp on walls and grout. Because the heat comes from the floor, the whole room warms evenly, with no heater near water and nothing taking up wall space.
- 01
Warm tiles
Marble and ceramic tiles are the coldest floors in a Kashmiri house in winter. Heated, they are the most comfortable.
- 02
Drier floor
A warm floor evaporates standing water quickly, which also means fewer slips and less damp.
- 03
Nothing on the walls
No heater, no cable, no plug near the shower. The system is invisible once the tiles are laid.
- 04
Wuzu in comfort
Ablutions on a warm floor rather than ice-cold tiles before Fajr.

How much does underfloor heating cost for a bathroom?
Bathrooms are the cheapest room to heat because the area is small. At ₹220–₹600 per sq ft, a 40 sq ft heated floor comes to roughly ₹8,800 – ₹24,000 installed, and draws about 0.8 units an hour at full output. Areas under the vanity, shower tray or WC base are not heated.
| Heated area | Installed (by brand) | Units per hour (full output) | One hour each morning, 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 sq ft | ₹5,500 – ₹15,000 | 0.5 units | 15 units × your tariff |
| 40 sq ft | ₹8,800 – ₹24,000 | 0.8 units | 24 units × your tariff |
| 60 sq ft | ₹13,200 – ₹36,000 | 1.2 units | 36 units × your tariff |

How is underfloor heating installed in an existing bathroom?
The existing tiles and bed are broken out to about 2 to 3 inches. An insulation board goes down, then the heating cable, then a protective screed, and the tiles are re-laid at the original level. The work typically takes 5 to 6 hours including civil work, then the screed needs 5 to 6 days before the system is switched on.
